Hungarian Charities Collect Gifts, Open Helplines For Poor On Advent

Baptist Aid has opened over 200 collection points throughout Hungary to collect shoebox-sized gifts for the poor. The central collection point, dubbed the Castle of Shoeboxes, opens in the heart of Budapest on Monday morning.
The campaign to collect Christmas presents for disadvantaged children is being organised for the tenth year. Last year, over 40,000 gift boxes were collected and sent on to families.
The charity also has an online donation option and runs the helpline 1355 where people can call in and make a 300-forint donation (about one euro) to the cause. Ecumenical Aid has also started a donation drive for the Advent season.
Their helpline number is 1353. Each call is worth a donation of 250 forints.
