Hungarian Police Raid On Ökotárs Was Illegal
Buda Central District Court ruled on Thursday that the police raid of the offices of Ökotárs NGO and the homes of some of the foundation’s leading officials on September 8, 2014 were illegal.

The court established that there was no reasonable suspicion of misuse of funds at the time, nor was an official investigation underway into unauthorised financial activity.

PMO Minister János Lázár argued at the time that the Norwegian Civil Fund supports organisations linked to LMP.

The ruling is final, Ökotárs said.

Ökotárs said in a statement that “honouring and enforcing the principles and letter of the law are guarantees that no such similar act will be repeated”.

It continued: “we expect all Hungarian governments not to use state bodies to exert political pressure, as such action is harmful to democracy”.

The National Police issued a statement firmly denying the claim that it had carried out the house searches and seized documents because of political pressure. It said it acted free of party influence.
