Hungary Purchases Munkácsy Trilogy Piece From Canadian Owner
The Hungarian state has bought Christ Before Pilate, a large-scale painting forming part of Mihály Munkácsy’s famous Christ Trilogy, from the Canadian owner.

The purchase was preceded by two major decisions: the owner, the Hamilton Art Gallery, agreed to sell the painting and the National Bank of Hungary provided the funds required for the transaction on the other, Zoltán Balog said in Debrecen, east Hungary.

The contract on the purchase will be signed in late March, he added. Munkácsy (1844-1900) painted Christ Before Pilate in 1881. The painting together with Ecce Homo!(1896) and Golgotha (1884) will be on permanent display in the local Déri Museum.
