US-Owned Companies Treated Equally With Other Firms, Says Tax Office
US-affiliated companies in Hungary are treated equally with other, non-US, firms, the national tax and customs authority (NAV) said in a report published on the government’s website. The report followed an investigation launched in the wake of press reports suggesting that NAV conducted illegal procedures and in some cases failed to launch procedures causing the central budget VAT-revenue losses in the hundred billion forint range.

The investigation has not revealed any information suggesting that NAV should have applied any discrimination against US companies or failed to act upon any complaint raised by those businesses, the report said.

Authors of the document also insisted that NAV had not made any attempt, legal or illegal, to cause any financial or other harm to those companies.

NAV chief Ildikó Vida earlier confirmed that she was among persons blacklisted by the US on the basis of a presidential order banning entry to the US for persons involved in or profiting from corruption.
