Option Of Tax Office Preparing Tax Returns Increasingly Popular
The option to ask the Tax and Customs Office (NAV) to prepare personal income tax returns is increasingly popular, daily Magyar Nemzet said. As many as 317,000 people requested it last year, up from 290,000 in 2013 and 231,000 in 2012, the paper said, citing NAV figures.

NAV spokesman András Péter Kis said 375,000 requests were received so far this year. The documents have not been fully processed but more than 3,000 requests had to be rejected so far in cases when the office was not authorised to do the job, he said.

Economy Minister Mihály Varga said earlier that the government was studying the possibility of mandating the Tax Office with the task of preparing personal income tax returns.

The minister said he supported the idea and trusted that a review of the legal and technical issues would make it possible. Internet portal origo.hu said on Tuesday that the Tax Office could start preparing the tax returns in two years, according to documents it obtained.
