Sunday Brunch Hungarian Style In Elegant Gundel
For more than one hundred years, Gundel, one of the city’s top restaurants, has been the place to go for locals and tourists alike. Word has it that the New York Times once said that the restaurant does more for the country’s reputation than a truckload of tourist brochures. Over the years, it has repeatedly made various lists of the Top Ten restaurants in that world. Both claims are worth checking out.

One would expect a restaurant of such renown not to be kid-friendly. But not Gundel. Every Sunday, from 11.30 am to 3.00 pm, the restaurant offers an all-you-can-eat buffet lunch with a welcome drink of sparkling wine or orange juice.

Then, as the little ones are off drawing and colouring between courses, you can choose from an expansive selection of delectable cold and warm dishes and enticing desserts. Both Hungarian and international dishes feature on a menu that is beautifully complemented by live piano music in the background.

Whatever it is doing, it’s doing it right. TripAdvisor is alive with guest opinions bragging about ‘good food, amazing service, [and a] lovely experience’. Named ‘one of the top restaurants in Budapest’, others have described it as ‘a must!’

And its location has bragging rights, too. Nestled in the environs of City Park, a stroll through Hero’s Square and down Andrássy Ave might be just what’s called for after all that Sunday indulgence.
