Storm Floods Homes, Halts Trains In Budapest
Budapest authorities received more than 100 reports of damage and calls for help as a result of the intense hailstorm that struck the city late Tuesday afternoon. Spokesman Máté Kisdi said that in most cases disaster response personnel had to provide assistance because of flooded underpasses and cellars. Fire-fighters had to save a car from one metre of water on Péterhegyi út in the 11th District.

Fire-fighters put out a fire that ignited when the roofs of two houses were struck by lightning in the 16th District.

Elsewhere, hundreds of passengers were stranded on a train at Pécel, on the Miskolc-Budapest line because the heavy downpour of rain practically washed away the surroundings of the rail track.

Eventually, buses were provided to take them to their destination.
