Hungarian Taxi Drivers Protest Against Illegal Transport Services
Taxi drivers held a demonstration in Budapest to demand government action against illegal transport service companies. The protesters, who arrived in an estimated 300 cars, blocked a street section near Parliament and called on the government to pass legislation to “complete the legal background” to taxi services.

State secretary János Fónagy, who took over a petition from the protesters, said that the government would discuss a “taxi decree” at its session on Wednesday.

He also voiced the government’s support for lawabiding taxi drivers. In their petition, the taxi drivers said that unlicensed service providers undermined their legal business and called on the government to apply “full rigor of the law” against drivers carrying passengers without a permit.
