Tens Of Thousands Of Jobs Vacant In Hungary
Hungary has tens of thousands of unfilled jobs with mechanics, cleaners and garbage collectors among the most sought-after workers, the Saturday edition of daily Magyar Idők said. Citing August jobs data from the economy ministry, the paper said there was also a nationwide shortage of construction, industrial and agricultural workers, with each sector reporting over 1,000 vacancies.

Data for the first half of the year suggest there are also significant nationwide shortages of metallurgy workers, shopkeepers, bakers, tailors and truck drivers.

Ferenc Dávid, general secretary of the National Association of Employers (VOSZ), said despite the high unemployment rate, many people choose public work or even take on black market jobs over private sector jobs, which require more commitments, since the difference in the minimum wage and public work wages is about 14,000-15,000 forints (EUR 45-48).
