October 23 Commemorations In Hungary To Include Exhibitions & Film Screenings
This year’s official commemorations of the 1956 anti-Soviet uprising will include exhibitions, films screenings and a walk through history in the Hungarian Radio building, the organisers said. Nóra Ivády, head of the defence ministry’s national event organising office, said that the series of commemorative events will start on October 21 with a wreath-laying ceremony at the 1956 Technical University Memorial.

The university, the site where students in 1956 set out on their famous march, will host a second commemorative event on Wednesday afternoon, involving a meeting of former students, to be followed by the annual torch-lit march to the Bem statue.

On October 23, Hungary’s national flag will be raised with military honours at 10am, and a variety of programmes will be held throughout Hungary to mark the revolution’s 59th anniversary.
