Historic Debrecen Church Vandalised
The mayor of Debrecen spoke out yesterday against vandals who had painted a cross turned upside down and a swastika on the Grand Church, the city’s most prominent building. A pastor at the church has filed a report about the case and Debrecen police have launched an investigation.

Mayor László Papp said he condemns the act and finds it outrageous that vandals had painted a swastika on the iconic building in the city centre.

Debrecen is proud that religious denominations carry on their activity in harmony, he declared, adding “we shall not tolerate base or malicious people destroying this peaceful relationship and we shall not tolerate anybody poisoning the peaceful atmosphere of Debrecen with symbols of fascism”.
