Hungary scored its first international ice hockey championship win since 1939 on Saturday, with a 5-2 victory over Belarus in St. Petersburg.

Hungary, appearing in only its third world championship tournament, lost all but one of its seven matches, after a defeat of 5-1 by the USA last Friday, and a 4-2 loss to Germany on Monday.

However, Hungary will remain in the sport’s top tier if Belarus fail to beat France today.
