Xpat Inspiration: Daring Trip To Antarctica
Most expats are well traveled folks, and are open to new adventures, so here’s a story to inspire your ‘wanderlust’: Exploring wild oceans, discovering abandoned territories, and going on dangerous adventures are nothing new to Veronica Wynne-Hughes, daughter of an English father and Hungarian mother.

Her methods are far from ordinary: she goes ‘boat hitch-hiking’, and works in exchange for food and accommodation.

Veronica has been traveling the world for more than two years. After sailing across the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, fighting through some powerful storms, her new mission is to conquer the ice-covered Antarctica, alone!

While she wouldn’t be the first to complete such a difficult and demanding trip, she would be the first one to take this particular route, which, according to Veronica, is one of the “easiest”.

Her aim is to reach the South Pole, which will take approximately 57 days, pulling a 60kg sledge behind her in an average daytime temperature of -30°C.

This extraordinary adventure requires a one-year training program, which will take place in Budapest, starting from November, a program anyone can join in exchange for a small donation.

Once she starts her journey, people will be able to follow Veronica’s expedition live, through various types of social media. Details will be available during the training program.

Veronica’s message is to encourage people to step out of their comfort zones, to face their fears in order to reach their wildest goals. She wants to show how ordinary people are capable of achieving extraordinary things just by having enough willpower and determination.
