Eco-Conscious Christmas Fair At St. Stephen Basilica
The Advent Fair at the Basilica, the spectacular and event-rich meeting place of the Inner City will open on 25th November. In the joyful bustle of the fair magical Christmas ambience awaits for the visitors until the 2nd of January.

Every night the Basilica is being illuminated with colourful lights, and vendors with special gifts are setting up their stands in the heart of the city. In the fairy-tale huts on Saint Stephen's Square visitors may browse through the remarkable items of almost eighty craftsmen, and might find unique, hand-crafted artefacts of folk and applied art, textile and leather works, pottery and jewellery along with designer clothes and accessories, or pieces of photographers and graphic artists.

This year again, the fair is offering a spectacular visual experience: a new, monumental 3-dimensional video mapping will charm the admirers of the festive Christmas atmosphere. You may select from a great number of programmes – there will be handicraft workshops, cultural events, concerts in the Basilica and surprise happenings.

Eco-friendly Christmas bustle

For the fifth time the Hungarian Interchurch Aid has been participating in the fair as a key partner, and this year – as part of a joint charity action – donations for the Aid are collected at every exhibitor's stall. Just as in the previous years a 200 m² large ice rink will be available at the site. This ice isn't produced of water, but of a special material therefore its operation is energy-efficient and eco-friendly. Ecological consciousness will be a priority during the fair so the waste will be collected for recycling, and only special biodegradable cups, plates and cutlery will be used. Moreover, the colourful festive lightings will utilize only LED lights.

Traditional and modern dishes

Apart from the shopping, one can have a glass of mulled wine with friends, partner or colleagues, while tasting the unique culinary selection. Anyone can find nibbles by his or her preference, the enthusiasts of traditional style may taste real hand-made chocolate, honey cake or chimney cake while the gourmands may choose from a wide range of unique and surprising versions of street food classics, as hot dogs, sandwiches and burgers.
