Movie type: Action Adventure Fantasy - This video game-based film is an action adventure, but with its high class cast, it has more serious drama than most movies based on games. Fans of Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard will enjoy, but other recognizable stars such as Jeremy Irons, Charlotte Rampling, and Brendan Gleeson have only smaller roles. While rated PG-13, there is a bit of violence that makes the film not for kids.

Berardinelli, Internet Critic: “Average It looks like a great deal of money was spent which makes the result - little more than a glorified video game tie-in - so depressing. The bottom line is the same with this movie as with nearly every other member of its sub-genre: don't bother venturing out to see the movie; stay home and play the game instead.”
Roger Ebert: “Below Average For a moment, "Assassin's Creed" looks like it's about to get interesting. That moment does not last, however, since the filmmakers are more concerned with storytelling mechanics than in the story they're telling. Gamers may enjoy "Assassin's Creed," but everyone else's patience will be tested.”
NY Post: “Poor ...perhaps all of this will be thrilling for fans who've played it. The rest of us, I imagine, may come out of this film invigorated with a creed of our own: Avoid movies based on video games.”
Rolling Stone: “Above Average By showing signs of intelligent life in a universe of diseased, digital drivel, Assassin's Creed stands above the herd of movies based on video games by default. Given the low-bar status of the genre, that's not saying much...”
