GVH fines hit record in 2006

"The Competition Office (GVH) issued a record total of Ft 11.4 billion in fines in 2006. In the most severe penalty, the GVH fined compulsory car insurers Ft 6.8 billion for forming a price cartel.

The highest-ever fine, of Ft 7 billion, was issued to a motorway construction cartel in 2004, when the annual total reached Ft 8.9 billion. The office issued Ft 3.3 billion in fines in 2005, after totals of only Ft 400 million in 2002 and Ft 800 million in 2003."
