Now Showing In Budapest: 'Baywatch'
"Devoted lifeguard Mitch Buchanan butts heads with a brash new recruit. Together, they uncover a local criminal plot that threatens the future of the Bay."

Movie type: Comedy - While based on the hit TV show of the same name, this is not a straight adaptation of the series but an outrageous comedy that parodies it--and unlike the TV series, this film gets very crude and raunchy, so families familiar with only the original show should be warned. Fans of Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron should enjoy, while Priyanka Chopra only has a smaller supporting role, and original TV series stars David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson only have cameos. Language and crude, raunchy gags are constant, and there is some violent content, but not graphically so.

Director: Seth Gordon

Script: Damian Shannon, Mark Swift

Starring: Mitch Buchannon - Dwayne Johnson, Matt Brody - Zac Efron, CJ Parker - Kelly Rohrbach, Summer Quinn - Alexandra Daddario

Length: 1 hr. 59 min.

Reated: R

Reviews:

Berardinelli, Internet Critic: “Poor ...it disappoints in almost every way, not succeeding at anything it tries and boring audiences in the process. More than lifeguards in spandex are needed to resuscitate this beached whale. The waterlogged end product is an example of lazy writing and direction...”

Roger Ebert: “Below Average this is another one of those raunchy comedies that's barely a movie, that looks like it was edited by dumping a bunch of footage into whatever movie-cutting software they're using and hitting "randomize.” The number of out-of-continuity shots in the first 20 minutes was so large I stopped counting.”

USA Today: “Average ...has its share of hilarious moments but never fully commits to the absurd, and even the cleverest jokes get so many callbacks, they're beating a dead seahorse. Everything one would expect in a Baywatch movie — cleavage, bouncing body parts, constant flexing and the excessive use of slo-mo — is present.”

NY Post: “Below Average ...director Seth Gordon and a cargo ship full of writers use the beachy setup as little more than a vehicle for generic hard-R and gross-out gags. The cast is capable, and a meta-examination of Baywatch should have produced something sharper.”
