Süskind’s seductive story of scent

"IT is already an extraordinary feat that the film Perfume was made at all. While director Stanley Kubrick apparently said that if something can be thought of, then it can be filmed, he also supposedly deemed Patrick Süskind’s novel “unfilmable.”

Süskind, a writer-recluse as extreme as J.D. Salinger, seems to have concurred, as he held out for 15 years before finally conceding to sell the rights to his friend, Bernd Eichinger, who had untiringly persisted."
