5 Top Acts At Sziget 2017
It’s been a good couple of years since I've set foot on The Island of Freedom, but the Sziget 2017 festival line-up is one of the most exciting in a long time for many @expatintheloop. To share the pre-gig exhilaration here are our top five 'must see' acts this August, along with a few other best bets for your interest.

Interpol - Tuesday 15th, 23.45pm, OTP Bank Stage by A38

The New York indie rockers are just about to start an anniversary tour of their debut album, Turn on the Bright Lights and luckily for all of us they are heading down Budapest way. The band played The A38 stage at Sziget in 2015 and despite obvious sound issues, their performance blew the whole audience away. I will see them in Vienna on the 10th and then again in BP five days later. They are that good.
Listen out for the song: Leif Erikson.

PJ Harvey - Friday 11th, 19.30pm, Main Stage

I last saw Polly Jean Harvey playing The 02 Academy in Glasgow about a decade ago and her legendary live show was every bit as good as was promised. PJ has a sweeping back catalogue and every album she releases is somehow better and completely different from the last.
Listen out for: Let England Shake.

Mac DeMarco - Monday 14th, 22pm, OTP Bank Stage by A38

The only artist on the list that I haven’t caught live, DeMarco is one of the most accomplished singer/songwriters going into today’s music game. He played The A38 last year and from all reports, it was a terrific show. His latest album This old Dog was released a few months ago and it could be his best yet.
Listen out for: The stars keep on calling my name.

DJ Shadow - Friday 11th, 23.45pm, OTP Bank Stage by A38

Another great artist I saw in my youth, Joshua Davis or DJ shadow as he is better known sure can get an audience moving. He’s not quite hit the heights of his debut, Entroducing however few people have came close to that seminal album. Entroducing created a whole other genre of hip-hop instrumental music and it’s worth seeing Shadow alone for some of those early classics.
Listen out for: Stem / Long Stem.

White Lies - Sunday 13th, 17.45pm - Dan Panaitescu Main Stage

Like Shadow, White Lies are no longer the powerhouse they once were but you’ll be hard pressed not to enjoy their show. The last time I saw them at Sziget they were the main stage closing act in 2011. Ritual had just came out & it seemed like they were an unstoppable juggernaut on their way to World domination. Two pretty tepid albums since & they now find themselves in an early evening slot. Despite all this they still put on a terrific live show and it’s not to be missed.
Listen out for: A Place to Hide

Honourable mentions:

Bears’ Den - OTP Bank Stage by A38, Friday, Aug 11. 18:30 - 19:45

Alt-J - Main Stage, Tuesday, Aug 15. 19:30 - 21:00

Biffy Clyro - Main Stage, Thursday, Aug 10. 19:30 - 21:00
