Now Showing In Budapest: 'Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets'
"A dark force threatens Alpha, a vast metropolis and home to species from a thousand planets. Special operatives Valerian and Laureline must race to identify the marauding menace and safeguard not just Alpha, but the future of the universe."

Movie type: Action Adventure Sci-Fi - This is an effects-heavy science fiction action film. Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne are the leads, with more known faces such as Clive Owen and Rihanna in much smaller roles. Fans of Rihanna will be especially disappointed given her very limited screen time, for most of her role is voiceover. Language is minimal, but some suggestive banter, moderate language, and creepy creatures and visuals may be of caution to parents of young children.

Director: Luc Besson

Script: Pierre Christin, Jean-Claude Méziéres

Starring: Valerian - Dane DeHaan, Laureline - Cara Delevingne, Leader - Clive Owen , Jolly The Pimp - Ethan Hawke

Length: 2 hr. 17 min.

Reated: PG-13

Reviews:

Berardinelli, Internet Critic: “Above Average Watching this movie, my sense was that Besson was only tangentially concerned about characters and plot. This was instead an attempt to out-Lucas George, out-Cameron James, and out-Spielberg Steven. On a purely visual level, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets deserves mention among the most technic. “

Roger Ebert: “Excellent ...a deliriously entertaining film that finds writer/director Luc Besson swinging for the fences in his efforts to make a weirdo sci-fi epic for the ages and coming up with a virtual home run derby. It's a film filled with humor, charm, excitement and so many memorable images...”

NY Post: "Poor It's all Saturday morning cartoon-level stuff, and if the target audience of this mess was 8-year-olds, I'd totally get it. But then along comes Ethan Hawke as a space pimp, and Clive Owen as a torture-happy officer, and Rihanna as a shape-shifting exotic dancer, so I guess it's not really for the kiddies.”

Rolling Stone: “Average It's as gorgeous as anything the French filmmaker has made and as empty as a Trump tweet. You either go with it or you don't. You can make the effort, but after a punishingly 137 minutes and Valerian does not get better as it goes along your enthusiasm is likely to collapse.”
