PMO Orders Várkert Bazár Renovation
The Prime Minister’s Office has ordered a renovation of the Várkert Bazár, the exhibition and convention centre at the bottom of the Buda castle in the First District in Budapest, due to water leaking into the building, Népszava reports.

The PMO acted after website Urbanista reported water-soaked walls, rust and decaying wrought iron. A lift was also knocked out of commission by groundwater leaks.

The previous restoration of the 19th-century building, mostly financed by EU funds, was completed in 2014. The original costs doubled to Ft 20 billion, Népszava writes.

The Várkert Bazár receives numerous visitors and groundwater damaged the walls for decades before restoration, the PMO said.
