Local Opinion: Brussels Sues Hungary On Three Counts
As the European Commission presses three infringement procedures against Hungary, a pro-government commentator accuses it of applying double standards and of violating Hungary’s sovereignty.

The European Commission referred Hungary to the European Court of Justice on Thursday for three recently adopted laws that Brussels finds in contradiction of Union rules. The lawsuits concern the legislation on foreign-funded NGOs, the Higher Education Law and Hungary’s refusal to accept the compulsory relocation of migrants.

In Magyar Hírlap, Sándor Faggyas thinks the infringement procedures are motivated by Hungary’s staunch opposition to attempts to impose immigrants on EU member countries.

He quotes Foreign Minister Péter Szíjjártó’s words to the Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs Committee of the European Parliament on Thursday that ‘a witch hunt is underway against Hungary’ because her opinions differ from those of the majority.

Faggyas believes that the accusations levelled against Hungary about alleged violations of European values are motivated by a profound disagreement over the migration issue.

He hopes that next week’s European summit will modify the balance of power in favour of the ‘Sovereignty’ camp rather than the ‘Brussellite’ one.
