"A robber briefly took an employee hostage when he attempted to rob a bank in Budapest’s Third District Tuesday afternoon. He eventually fled without any money. The robber entered the Erste Bank branch on Flórián tér shortly before 2 p.m., disarmed the security guard, and demanded cash from the tellers. The tellers alerted police, whose arrival disconcerted the robber. He took a bank employee with him as a hostage and fled. The hostage was released shortly thereafter, having suffered no greater harm than minor injuries in a scuffle with the robber.
The robber fled into a ten-storey building on nearby Miklós utca, where police lost track of him. Anti-terrorist units searched the building from flat to flat for nearly three hours, but found no trace of the robber. Eyewitnesses said he had already fled in a car.
Police continue to search for the bank robber in force, press officer Oszkár Sass said Tuesday evening. According to unconfirmed reports he is a man aged 25-30, sporting a beard, and wearing eyeglasses and a baseball cap."
