"Parliament’s health committee yesterday called for a new psychiatric institution to replace the Lipot institute in Budapest’s Second District, which was closed down in 2007.Civil rights ombudsman Mate Szabo said the institution was terminated but the previous government only addressed the consequences much later. The mental state of society is continuously deteriorating, he said, adding that 16% of children are beset by psychiatric problems, while there is no specialised care for them in three regions of the country.
Committee chairman Istvan Mikola of Fidesz asked National Resources Ministry undersecretary Peter Cserhati to find out in whose interest it was to close the Lipot institute and who is to blame.
Cserhati promised that a new psychiatric centre will be opened."
