Speed cameras are in operation throughout Hungary, and even though they are not hidden these cameras are not obvious to drivers either. For that reason, and for the sake of safety of course, its wise to watch your speed and the official limits:
Built-up areas 50 km/h
Minor roads 90 km/h
Major roads 110 km/h
Motorways 130 km/h
Drivers recorded over the speed limit can be prohibited from driving for a certain period, but are usually requested to pay a fine of anything up to HUF 60,000. The fine comes in the form of a check posted to the offender, without any proof of the offense provided together with the fine.
