'Fat Tax' Gains Weight In Europe |
|
"In September, Hungary imposed a tax on all foods with high fat, sugar and salt contents - as well soft drinks and beer. The expected annual proceeds of 70 million euros will be invested in health care programs. The tax addresses Hungary's obesity rate of 18.8 percent, which is more than 3 percentage points higher than the European average of 15.5 percent, according to a 2010 report by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development."More from the source: dw-world.de
