Few Traces In Moscow Of Wallenberg Who Saved Thousands Of Hungarian Jews
"Swedish diplomat Raoul Wallenberg may have lived a few days longer than the official date of his death, July 17, 1947, head archivist of the Russian counterintelligence service Vasily Khristoforov said in an interview with the Associated Press.

Wallenberg, who saved thousands of Hungarian Jews in World War II in Hungary, disappeared amid mysterious circumstances in 1945.

The official Soviet report that he died of a heart attack at the age of 32 may have been fabricated and his captors “could have helped him to die,” Khristoforov said.

He added that Soviet authorities probably destroyed all documents pertaining to Wallenberg in the 1950s to cover up his fate.

His office is nevertheless still searching for more traces of Wallenberg in the archives."
