"Vaccines against the H1N1 flu virus will be available at all of Hungary’s chemist shops by Wednesday evening, Health Minister Tamas Szekely told MTI.Szekely noted that 12,500 Hungarians visited their GPs with flu symptoms last week, down from 14,200 the previous week.
“Hungary can consider itself fortunate to have the required number of vaccines before a major outbreak of the virus, European Centre for Diseases Prevention and Control director Zsuzsanna Jakab told MTI in Stockholm.
“The inoculations are the key means of prevention and all vaccines distributed in Europe are effective and safe, she added.
Fidesz health specialist Imre Pesti told reporters after a House health committee meeting behind closed doors that “too many secrets surround vaccine maker Omninvest. The company’s owners remain unknown,” he added.
MPs at the meeting were able to study the contract signed by the health administration and Omninvest, which is classified for 25 years.
“The confidentiality of parts of the contract will probably be lifted within a few days,” Socialist House health committee chairman Mihaly Kokeny said.
Meanwhile Agriculture Minister Jozsef Graf and PMO leader Csaba Molnar had themselves inoculated against the flu virus in the medical room of the House.
So far only 3% of the population have been inoculated, while the ideal figure would be at least 60%. "
