The 7th UEFA Futsal Championship will be held in Hungary between January 19th and the 30th. Budapest (Papp László Sportaréna) and Debrecen (Főnix Csarnok) will serve as host cities. Twelve teams will compete for the gold medal. The teams will be organized into in four groups, each with three teams. The two teams with the best record from each group will enter the knockout stage. This will be only the second time that Hungary is participating in the competition. In 2005, Hungary finished the preliminary stage without a single point. This time Hungarians hope for better results as they are in Group A with Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic. On the latest ranking of Futsal World Ranking, the Czechs are in 15th place, Hungary the 23rd, and Azerbaijan the 25th. The favorite to win is Spain, as they have collected four out of six possible gold medals. Italy and Russia are also major contenders.
