House Passes Bill On Civil Partnerships

House Passes Bill On Civil Partnerships
"Parliament on Monday night passed a bill, submitted by Justice and Law Enforcement Minister Albert Takács, on settling the matter of registered civil partnerships. The governing parties supported the bill but the opposition earlier said it would vote against it after the left-wing caucuses did not support their amendment motions.

The Registered Life-partnership Act, which will enter into force from January 1, 2009, gives more rights to those in civil partnerships, including same-sex couples. In future couples may declare their registered civil partnerships before a registrar. This type of relationship will have the same legal standing as marriage on ownership and inheritance rights, although registered couples may not adopt children.

Meanwhile a poll conducted by Masmi Hungary Market Research Institute for Népszabadság revealed that 59% of the respondents do not condemn homosexuality but find it unnatural, 29% of the respondents condemn it, and 12% find homosexuality completely normal."
