Hungarian Cabinet To Favour Medical Students

Hungarian Cabinet To Favour Medical Students
"The government will give preference to medical students in allocating funds to cover tuition fees, according to data released by Education state secretary Rózsa Hoffmann. Only 100 law students will be funded by the state in September, down from 800 last year, and 250 in economics, down from 4,900 last year.

The largest sum of state subsidy, Ft 1.9-2.7 million, will be paid for medical education, Hoffmann said.

Hoffmann said the precise sums will be made public within two weeks.

Hoffmann confirmed on Thursday that the state will cover the complete study costs of 34,000 students in total, and about half of the costs for 15,500 students.

Other students will have to pay full tuition fees. State loans will be available, with the state guaranteeing interest payments.

The number of state-financed places will be reduced to 30,000 next year, rather than in 2014, as originally planned, Népszabadság writes."
