"The government clearly aims to grant Hungarian retail chains preferential status in the new voucher market, Retail Association president György Vámos told Népszabadság. The favouritism is not necessarily a bad thing in itself, he continued, but excluding international retail chains by setting preposterous conditions is problematic.The 6% fee to be charged to foreign companies renders it impossible for retailers to make a profit, Vámos added. This is in contrast to the 3% fee that will reportedly be charged toHungarian-owned retailers.
State holiday service NÜSZ, the issuer of the planned “Erzsébet voucher,” declined to disclose the terms offered to multinational retail chains.
The organisation said it is engaged in talks with multinationals, but Népszabadság learnt that the NÜSZ has failed to respond to a letter from a major international retail chain.
The NÜSZ has signed co-operation agreements with Hungarian retail chains Coop, Reál and CBA, which will accept the vouchers for payment at some 15,000 outlets."
