Szeged Synagogue Inaugurated After Reconstruction
The synagogue in Szeged, south Hungary, was inaugurated on Sunday after a full external reconstruction funded mostly by a 950 million forint (EUR 3.1m) government grant.

Szeged mayor and Socialist PM candidate László Botka said at the ceremony that the Jewish community “gave value to the city and helped it become what it is today”.

Yossi Amrani, Ambassador of Israel to Hungary, praised the 114-year-old synagogue as “of special importance not only for the Jewish community but for Hungarian culture as a whole”.

The Art Deco synagogue was erected in 1903. The glass cupola and stained-glass panes are works of renowned Hungarian artist Miksa Róth.
