"The vast majority of Hungarians harbour anti-Roma feelings and although several public personalities have made anti-Gypsy remarks, society did not punish them, the US embassy in Budapest wrote in an analysis in May 2009, according to a cable made public by WikiLeaks, Magyar Nemzet reports.Although cabinet members called on the population to be more tolerant of Roma people, 80% of Hungarians are prejudiced toward them, the cable adds.
The right-wing daily comments that the analysis neglected to mention several serious crimes committed by Roma groups, such as the murders of Marian Cozma and Lajos Szogi."
