"Hungary is the fifth most successful of the 125 emerging countries Bertelsmann Foundation found in a study announced in Berlin on Monday. The list is led by the Czech Republic, followed by Slovenia and EstoniaThe performance of Hungary’s political elite was joint 18th with India and Brazil. The continuation of the present polarisation can undermine democracy and legitimacy, the study added. Bertelsmann recommended a consensus against populism. This policy should include a social policy of helping the poor gain access to education, health and employment.
Hungary’s economy is lagging behind to its peers and will not catch up in the coming years. The twin deficits and high inflation also contributed to this lag, the report found."
