The Budapest Prosecutor's Office followed standard procedure when applying to UK authorities regarding the recent extradition of two British suspects, the prosecutor's spokesperson told MTI yesterday. This short film shows the case being discussed in the European Parliament.British Ambassador to Hungary, Mr. Greg Dorey, told XpatLoop.com today that while, "we do not discuss details of individual consular cases, which are confidential," he continued "I can, however, say that appropriate consular assistance is being provided and that we continue to monitor these cases in close consultation with all relevant parties."
Michael Turner and Jason McGoldrick are accused of a white collar crime following the bankruptcy of their Hungarian company several years ago. What has happend to these two men could happen to any British / EU citizen, at any time - an issue for wider consideration.
Apparently, according to article 1, paragraph 1 of the framework decision of the European commission, EU arrest warrants should be issued "for the purposes of conducting a criminal prosecution or executing a custodial sentence or detention order". In this case Jason and Michael have not even been charged yet, and have only been interviewed by police once after more than 80 days in prison.
