Election CTTEE Rejects Referendum Bids On Cannabis Legalisation, Euro
The National Election Committee (NVB) rejected referendum initiatives on the legalisation of cannabis and the introduction of the euro at a meeting on Tuesday. The NVB rejected two referendum questions on the legalisation of cannabis submitted by the Liberal Party on the grounds that they were unclear.

The committee also discussed two bids on the introduction of the euro, both of which had been submitted by Zoltán Keresztény, head of the Civic World Party, as a private individual.

The NVB rejected both bids on the grounds that they fall under the authorities of the government and the National Bank of Hungary rather than that of parliament.

The NVB also said the bids were aimed at “covertly” amending the constitution, which declares the Hungarian forint as Hungary’s official currency. In light of this, the subject matter in question is ineligible for a referendum, the committee said, adding that the questions were also misleading.
