"Inflation was 4.5% year-on-year in March, the Central Statistics Office announced Tuesday. Core inflation was 2.5% year-on-year, up from 1.9% a in February. Fuel prices rose 3.4% month-on-month and increased nearly 17% year-on-year.
Sugar cost almost 75% more in March than a month earlier, while flour prices rocketed by nearly 60%.Analysts asked by Napi Gazdaság had forecast 4.2% year-on-year average inflation for March, making the actual figure an unpleasant surprise. “The sharp spike in food prices was also experienced regarding processed food products, and this pushed up core inflation,” obeserved Takarékbank analyst Gergely Suppan."
