"Irishman Francis Ciaran Tobin, who caused the deaths of two children in Leányfalu, Pest county over a decade ago, was detained at Dublin Supreme Court after arriving of his own volition in Dublin on Wednesday, the online version of The Irish Times reported. The Dublin Supreme Court ruled in February that there is no obstacle to Tobin’s extradition to Hungary, which has requested his extradition, but he appealed to the Irish Supreme Court, which is now assessing the case.
Irish Life & Permanent insurance executive Tobin struck the children with his Volvo on April 9, 2000. The two died on the spot.
Tobin left Hungary on November 20, 2000, after his work contract expired, but a Hungarian court sentenced him to three years in prison in absentia in 2002. A higher court later confirmed this verdict.
Irish authorities arrested Tobin in Dublin in November 2009, based on a European arrest warrant issued by the Hungarian authorities."
