Leaked Cable “Orbán’s Őszöd” – Hungary's Jobbik
"Prime Minister Viktor Orbán told EU ambassadors to “pay no attention to what I say to get elected” during the 2006 election campaign, according to a US embassy cable that the then US ambassador April Foley sent to her superiors, which WikiLeaks has published.

In a confidential analysis drawn up to mark Fidesz’s 20th anniversary, Foley reported that Orbán had told her to “ignore what I say”.

Prime ministerial spokesman Péter Szijjártó attempted to dismiss the cables, saying they are “new chapters of the American entertainment industry, day after day”, with which Fidesz does not plan to deal.

Socialist Party chairman Attila Mesterházy said it is now justified to question whether pledges made to save foreign currency loan borrowers are still credible.

Politics Can Be Different (LMP) MP Gábor Vágó said Orbán has been two-faced for years and his credibility is now in question, at its very foundations.

Jobbik spokesman Ádám Mirkóczki said “Fidesz appears to have its own Őszöd speech,” referring to former prime minister Ferenc Gyurcsány’s speech that sparked riots when it was leaked to the media in September, 2006.

Another cable sees Foley writing that Orbán’s appearance in an armoured vehicle with a German licence plate had caused outcry among party officials. The embassy noted that the car belonged to an unidentified German citizen."
