Xtra: Live Well At Hotel Pelion In Tapolca

Xtra: Live Well At Hotel Pelion In Tapolca
Tapolca, a town famous for its caves and streams, suffered from a lack of decent accommodation until the Hotel Pelion opened a few years back.

Located in the west part of the Balaton highlands, not far from Kapolcs with its famous summer festival, the hotel enjoys the highest occupancy rates of all the properties in the Hunguest network.

There are several probable reasons for this, its unique location, excellent service, fine food, range of entertainment and wellness facilities for both adults and children.

Convenient Therapeutic Cave

The first reason could be that below the hotel there is a ‘karst cave’. It’s not only a beautiful sight, is also offers a special microclimate ideal for curing respiratory diseases.

Its direct connection to this underground grotto makes it unique in Europe. Its also very peaceful place, safely enclosed by a large park. It’s still very close to the city centre of Tapolca and so within walking distance of many local attractions.

Enjoy Recreation & Wellness

On site there is plenty to keep guests entertained and in good health: 4 tennis courts (2 indoor, 2 outdoor), 2 squash courts, badminton court, fitness room, gymnasium, minigolf, Jacuzzi, thermal pool, sauna, infrasauna, biosauna, outdoor swimming-pool, steam bath, massage, aroma therapy baths, hairdresser's, solarium, and an oxarium.

Superb Service & Food

During summertime the hotel grill terrace and pool bar offer a convenient and enjoyable experience. In the lobby bar guest enjoy a wide range of coffees and drinks, with live music in the evenings. The hotel restaurant offers Hungarian, international and "bio" dishes. The evening buffet offers amazing choice, quality and value for money.

Ordering á la carte at is also recommended at the Orchidea Restaurant, many healthy dishes tempt guests, such as the ‘smoked salmon terrin with garlic-shrimp’, served with a fresh salad. The wine list is balanced and caters for all budgets; the house wine is very drinkable and is affordably priced.

More seafood worth mentioning is the ‘royal lobster and river crab-tail with garlic, baked in a crunchy coating, served with chive papardella and piquant chilli sauce’. A favourite fish dish is the roasted trout prepared with lemon and butter to magnify the magnificent the taste, served up in its foil wrapping, simply and perfectly accompanied by parsley potatoes.

For those not on a diet there is plenty worth sampling too, like the ‘fried chicken breast with almonds, orange-grape sauce served with home-made potato croquets and broccoli’. The roasted ‘Mangalica’ chop with a goose-liver ragout is excellent served with onion, potato and bacon. Plus for all the meat eaters out there with a healthy appetite the beef steak with multi-coloured pepper sauce hits the right spot.

Family Friendly Fun

For families with children the special kids buffet is a winner. For youngsters to work up an appetite the hotel's kindergarten offers qualified supervision while kids play with a multitude of games and toys.

This allows parents to take time for themselves, perhaps for an on-site Thai massage, or beauty treatment in the ‘health farm’. Sports for children and other interesting things for them to do are organized by the friendly staff on a daily basis, also there are both indoor and outdoor children's pools.

The hotel is also a great place to use as a base for family days out. A trip to the city mill lake is an easy and pleasing option. A car trip to the Herend Porcelanium (Herendi Porcelangyar) is worth the approx. 30km drive. Nearby Kapolcs is home to a Minature Hungary Park, and of course Lake Balaton is just around the corner.
