Making Tea Not War At British Embassy In Budapest

Making Tea Not War At British Embassy In Budapest
"HMA Greg Dorey hosted this special Tea Party on 14 July 2008 for "The Roof of the World Rally" volunteers - Ryan Walker, Shophie Willingale and Ian Richardson - who are working with the SWORDE-Teppa charity of Tajikistan. After Ryan`s short presentation about the charity, hot tea and cakes were served to those attending.

By driving from London to Tajikistan, Ryan, Shopie and Ian aim to draw attention to the work of the charity, which is focusing on children's education, malaria prevention, English Language Teaching, climate change and much more in Tajikistan. The team also imports vehicles to the charity that can be used, for example for the children's educational trips.

This campaign fits well with the Embassy's foreign policy priorities, including the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Agreed by the UN in 2000, the 8 MDGs aim to reduce global poverty. They include achieving universal education; reducing child mortality; combating malaria and tropical diseases; and ensuring environmental sustainability.

Among other 190 countries, Hungary has signed up to fulfil the commitments of the MDGs by 2015. But this work cannot just be left to governments. It is crucial that everyone - businesses, faith groups, professionals and charities like SWORDE-Teppa contributes towards the MDGs."
