"The Economy Ministry yesterday announced plans for a temporary extra tax on incomes above Ft 202,000 a month, with the additional revenue to be transferred to those who are worse off under the new tax regime. The ministry said its aim is to guarantee that no-one loses out in the new tax system. Those who inform the tax authority NAV that they are worse off under the tax regime will get a refund.
Even some who receive less than the average wage will have to pay the extra tax, Napi Gazdaság observes, as the average wage is Ft 211,000 per month.
Népszava remarks that the plan undoes the 16% flat tax introduced this year.
The ministry also suggests that the minimum wage be raised to a gross Ft 92,000 per month from today’s Ft 78,000.
The government will suggest a 5% wage increase for the private sector for 2012, and will compensate employers if they raise wages by more than 5%."
