"Hungarian fuels group MOL has announced on Friday that it has agreed to grant financial support for rider Gábor Talmácsi to compete on Scot Racing Team MotoGP at the world's premier motorcycling championship MotoGP.“The establishment of the financial background needed for the participation was made possible by the letter of intent signed by MOL, which ensures the appropriate level of financial support for the rider, dependent upon fulfilment of the certain conditions thereby paving the way of MOL possibly becoming the main sponsor of Scot Racing Team MotoGP," MOL said in a statement.
Talmácsi continues its career as a rider of Scot Racing Team MotoGP after receiving a nod from Jorge Martinez “Aspar" - in line with his previous pledge -to move.
On Friday, Honda has also given its blessing to Talmácsi becoming the full-fledged member of Scot Racing Honda Team and thereby removing all technical obstacles from continuation.
Talmácsi is to make a surprise MotoGP debut on Sunday at the Catalunya circuit in the sixth round of the 2009 World Championship. There are 11 remaining races during the season.
The 2007 125cc World Champion only moved up to the 250cc class this year, as an Aspar affiliate rider, in the new Balatonring Team project, but left the team just three races into the season following a dispute over image rights.
“It is our sincere hope that he will prove himself to be worthy for the interest and love of the country in Barcelona and the upcoming races of the series," MOL Vice President Szabolcs Ferencz I. said in a statement.
“I owe this is huge opportunity to my manager, Stefano who never gave up on me, and to MOL that has stood and still stands by me," Talmácsi said.
Preparing for his 800cc debut on a satellite Honda RC212V, Talmácsi added: “In the course of the Barcelona race I aim to get acquainted with the bike, since this is the first time I will ride it, but I will do my best to prove that I deserve the trust placed in me. At the upcoming races I hope to join the group of the best riders. It is going to be a great experience not only rolling out from the box on the new bike but also as of today being the first Eastern-European competing in the king category."
“Talma is finally amongst world's best where based on his talent he always belonged," said Stefano Favaro, Talmácsi's manager."
