'New Orleans Swing Festival', Budapest Palace of Arts, 29 - 31 August

'New Orleans Swing Festival', Budapest Palace of Arts, 29 - 31 August
"The Festival Theatre is presenting the 'New Orleans Swing Festival' for the fourth time, and thanks to its distinguished American and European performers it has developed into one of the Region’s most important traditional jazz festivals.

Following his highly successful concert last year, once again trumpeter and vocalist Tamás Bényei performs with his popular group, the Hot Jazz Band, and besides American evergreens, they will also be smuggling some Hungarian language material into the programme.

Their guest soloists will be Tamás Berki’s former student, young vocalist Éva Bolba and Papa Fleigh (László Forgács), one of Hungary’s finest imitators of Louis Armstrong’s style, who will be colouring the production with show time elements.

One of the finest representatives of authentic Louisiana style is guest star trumpeter and band leader Leroy Jones. He is celebrating his fiftieth birthday this year and arrives direct from New Orleans. During the course of his career he has worked with such stars as Danny Barker, Harry Connick Jr. and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. He has led his own bands since the early nineties and on this occasion he will be accompanied by the Polzien–Culverhouse–Richards trio.

Two years ago, drummer Trevor Richards and his band were guests at the Palace of Arts.

Benkó Dixieland Band’s concert at the Palace of Arts is expected to be real special. The Band, which has received many national and international prizes and acclaim will come to the Festival Theatre with songs they have never played in Budapest. Celebrated guest performers have also accepted the Band’s invitation to the concert.

Tickets: HUF 1500, 2900, 3400"
