"The most popular and populous half marathon has been organised for the 22nd time now in the capital of the Danube, in Budapest. For the event held on 2 September 5600 runners from 51 countries registered to the 21 kilometre distance. The curiosity of the Budapest half marathon is the relay for two members with 13 and 8 kilometres. Here more than 400 pairs increased further the number of participants.
The organisers of the race did not invite internationally known runners, thus the Nike Budapest Half Marathon was won by Hungarian runners with a not too good time. The course leading through the city centre is absolutely quick and flat except at the bridges. The majority of the amateur runners ran a PB despite the 23 degree heat.
The 21 kilometres passed by the most beautiful parts of Budapest, among them the Andrassy Street and the Buda Castle which are part of the World Heritage. The eldest Hungarian runner was 80 years old and finished the 21 kilometres in 2:04.
More than 1000 foreign runner tourists arrived to the Budapest Half Marathon; the most runners came from the United Kingdom, Germany, USA, Italy, France, Holland, Sweden, Austria, Spain and Finland.
The 23rd Nike Budapest Half Marathon will be held on 7 September 2007."
