Real Estate Tycoon Turns Olympic Swimmer Cseh's Silver Medals Into Gold

Real Estate Tycoon Turns Olympic Swimmer Cseh's Silver Medals Into Gold
"Hungarian real estate developer giant TriGranit, headed by investment tycoon Sándor Demján, is to pay a total of HUF 6 million to swimmer László Cseh for his three silver medals won at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The HUF 2 m for each medal is to be granted to Cseh so that he would receive the sum the state will hand out to gold-medallists.

Cseh was beaten into the second place three times by American swimmer phenomenon Michael Phelps, whom his Hungarian opponent said is “unbeatable at the moment". Phelps is on quest to do what no one has achieved before him, pocket eight gold medals at a single Olympics, beating Mark Spitz, who won seven of them in Munich in 1972. Phelps has the 100 butterfly final Saturday morning and the 4x100 medley relay on Sunday ahead of him.

Cseh has won his third silver medal in the 200 metres individual medley at dawn on Friday Hungarian time. Before he came in second in the 200 metres butterfly and 400 metres medley.

Demján, who watched the race live, said Cseh's achievement was “great glory for the whole Hungarian society" and, proud of the swimmer, he is “happy to supplement the premium" of HUF 18 m to HUF 20 m.

In total Cseh has earned net, tax-free HUF 54 m plus Demján's HUF 6 m."
