Now Showing In Budapest: 'Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows'
"Sherlock Holmes and his brother toast Dr. Watson on his last night of bachelorhood. Holmes encounters a Gypsy fortune teller whose unwiting involvement in a murder makes her the killer's next victim."

Movie type: Action Adventure Mystery - Like the first film, this is a more action oriented take on the classic detective character, but with the style and action more amped up this time. Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law fans will continue to get their fill though Rachel McAdams only makes a very brief return. Some intense violence and some very brief gay references could be of concern to parents.

Director: Guy Ritchie

Writer: Arthur Conan Doyle

Script: Kieran Mulroney, Michele Mulroney

Starring: Robert Downey Jr. (Sherlock Holmes), Jude Law (Dr. John Watson), Jared Harris (Prof. Moriaty), Noomi Rapace (Sim)

Length: 2 hr. 8 min.

Reviews:

Berardinelli, Internet Critic: “Good ... the presence of a strong villain and the intriguing way in which he is used are two primary reasons why A Game of Shadows trumps Ritchie's earlier Sherlock Holmes. The 2009 movie offered fun with a lot of annoying distractions. This one reduces the irritants while maintaining a high enjoyability quotient.”

Roger Ebert: “Very Good This is a modern action picture played in costume. I knew it would be. After "Sherlock Holmes" (2009) grossed something like half a billion dollars, this was no time to rethink the approach. What they have done, however, is add a degree of refinement and invention, and I enjoyed this one more than the earlier film.”

USA Today: “Average A game of chess between Holmes and Moriarty in which the two match wits is one of the better moments in a film that is filled with too many deviations and drunken detours. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is simultaneously brash and dull, hardly a combustible combination.”

Chicago Tribune: “Poor Almost everything else is the problem, and a headache, and, finally, a travesty.”
