Six-Star Hotel To Be Built On A Small Island Near Esztergom

Six-Star Hotel To Be Built On A Small Island Near Esztergom
"The small island of Primás on the Danube near Esztergom will house Hungary’s first six-star hotel after the city council approved architectural plans by Gábor Zoboki, the man behind Budapest’s award-winning Palace of Arts.

The small island of Primás on the Danube near Esztergom will house Hungary’s first six-star hotel after the city council approved architectural plans by Gábor Zoboki, the man behind Budapest’s award-winning Palace of Arts.

Zoboki said his hotel plan was inspired by Arab architecture, the towers of San Gimignano in Tuscany and the Easter Island statues. The 230-room hotel will be seven separate towers linked by single-story service buildings, allowing guests to walk freely between the buildings.

There will be a 500-capacity conference center, spa and medical complex. Access to the island will be exclusively on foot, with the complex linked to Esztergom by bridge. The 8.5-hectare island will get its own dam system to shelter it from spring and autumn river floods, while the hotel will be raised for further protection.

The cooling effect of the river and state-of-the-art ventilation will reduce the reliance on conventional air-conditioning. Completion is due in two to three years."
