"The Socialist, Free Democrat and Democratic Forum parties rejected a Fidesz proposal to reduce the number of MPs from the current 386 to 200 when the issue was debated in Parliament on Tuesday.Fidesz MP Róbert Répássy declared in outlining the proposal that at present the House does not work efficiently.
Socialist MP György Wiener said that in his party’s opinion Parliament should have 280-300 MPs, but consensus could prevail on a 200-member House if Fidesz includes a proposal on amending the Constitution to transform the electoral system.
Democratic Forum leader Ibolya Dávid said no frameworks can be determined without substance. She complained that there are some constituencies where 30,000 voters can elect an MP, compared to 70,000 voters in others."
